Royal Wedding Baking Ideas

by Owen Redford

On the 19th May 2018, Prince Harry will marry Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle as the world watches. The anticipation has been building ever since they got engaged, with the final preparations taking place this week. As with all Royal Weddings, so much interest has been around what sort of wedding cake they will have and it has recently been revealed that the ceremony will feature a Lemon & Elderflower wedding cake. So here at Baking Time Club, we have decided to put together a list of some delicious cakes with similar themes. Enjoy!

Lemon, Elderflower & White Chocolate Cake

The first bake on our royal list is this amazing Lemon, Elderflower & White chocolate cake. This bake is super light, with a moist sponge in the middle with lemon and elderflower cream in between each layer. It is iced with white chocolate buttercream and finally topped with freshly picked flowers and slices of lemon to give some added colour.

Next up we have these scrumptious Lemon Macaroons. Although a much lighter treat than the first bake, these are by no means any less satisfying. The lemon flavour really pops on the outer and the best thing is the option to change the flavour of the inside filling (EG add some elderflower cordial to really go along with the same theme as Harry & Meghan!). These can be made in around 45 minutes and will serve 32.

If you want to give these an added patriotic touch, scatter some of our new royal wedding sprinkles on top with the decorative icing!

Third on our list we have these Lemon & Elderflower Drizzle Muffins. These are really easy to make and will leave your taste buds tingling with their zingy flavours. This recipe serves 12 and is a great way of getting some royal wedding flavours in your life, with little cost.

Courgette Coconut Bundt Cake with Elderflower Glaze

Next, we have this mouth-watering Courgette (Zucchini if you’re across the pond) Coconut Bundt Cake with Elderflower Glaze. Although this cake lacks the Lemon element of royal wedding baking, it makes up for it with its delicious coconut flavourings as well as the elderflower glaze. Bundt cakes also look fancy so it will feel like you’re getting the full royal treatment! This cake can be made in around an hour and will serve 8-10.

Lemon & Elderflower Vegan Layer Cake

The final bake in our royal wedding list is this vegan Lemon and Elderflower Layer Cake. This traditional sponge cake looks so good with fresh flowers added to the outside as well as lemon and elderflower flavouring throughout. This cake is also completely vegan and gluten free!
